Science on Tap: 80s Night
If you haven't caught the buzz, Science on Tap is back! Visit the Science Museum of Virginia on Thursday, August 1, at 6 p.m. for an epic 21+ night of 1980s-themed fun, including gnarly food trucks, brews, craft cocktails and more! Jump in your DeLorean and head over for a bodacious evening featuring your favorite 1980s music, movies and more!
Each floor of the Science Museum will be decked out with programming themed around iconic 80s hits. Will it be Prince or The Police? Madonna or Queen? WHAM or Whitney Houston? You've got to be there to find out! Get ready for some righteous surprises and a rad night to remember! Plus, The Dome will be hosting an epic big-screen journey through 80s space flicks as their astronomer breaks down what Hollywood nailed and what they totally spaced on.
Costumes are a must, so whether you're going for preppy or punk, aerobics chic or aviator cool, Prince Akeem or Axel Foley, make sure you dress to impress. Cosmic Perception: An Interview with the Artist

As a "rebirth of a modern monument" with its 50 spires and dichroic film, Cosmic Perception doesn't tell you what to think or how to engage.     I find this very interesting. I have a friend that has staked a claim on the gneiss and he sends me pieces occasionally. I call them my Genesis Rocks. As far as the start of tectonics, that is a mystery. I am really amazed that plume vs subduction can be identified. That's just crazy good! I had pictured the Earth as a lava lake with some lava cooling off, but going back down, kind of a vertical tectonic motion. As the Earth cooled, little pieces of crust floated around (like that skin that forms on pudding in the pot), collided, accreted, and formed continents finally, and that led to horizontal tectonic movement.

    The stripes were already present in the ancestors of zebras in the form of white spots, these white spots common to tapirs and all archaic ungulates unified in the earliest members of the genus Equus to form stripes as they adapted to open habitats in North America, as they left as Stenonine equids, they kept those stripes until the plains zebra started to evolve in South Africa into the quagga, convergently fusing its stripes to form a unified coat but they couldn’t fully fuse them in time before going extinct
